Tell us a bit about yourself! How did you get started with your current career path/business journey?
I have a passion and purpose to be a change super- hero, changing the way that people interact with their environment and with other people. I truly believe that looking at things through the D&I lens has the potential to help solve many of the social and environmental issues we face as a people. As the Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Unilever North America, I am focused on attracting, cultivating, and elevating diverse talent. I am also focused on creating a work environment where people feel safe and included. The journey was not direct for me as I started my corporate career in Supply Chain, pivoted to Sales, and then to Human Resources. I followed my heart and took on roles that allowed me to continue to build on the skills and knowledge that I had acquired from the role I was in. Doing so led me to Diversity and Inclusion!
How are you overcoming challenges during the pandemic as a business owner?
I have been making sure to take time for myself when I feel my anxiety or stress building up, whether that is taking a day off or turning off my phones, laptops, and social media for a moment. I have also been making sure that I am taking time to talk to and spend time with (socially distanced of course) with my loved ones. All of those things help me manage myself and allows me to feel that I am not alone in the struggles that I am facing.
What does your day to day schedule look like working from home?
My day is broken up into three main parts: achieving the work goals that I have set for the day, feeding and engaging my 8 year old with games and outside play, and taking time to do something for me. Each day I make an effort to make sure that all of those things are fulfilled.
In what ways are you taking care of your personal well being and what are your #selfcare tips?
I have started to re-discover myself. I made a list of all the things that I have ever wanted to do and have been checking them off the list. I bought a saxophone and am teaching myself to play, I am taking french lessons, and I have been re-designing my home to make it more than just a place where my family and I rest our heads- it's our new oasis.
How are you inviting others to take a seat at the table #virtually?
I am continuously encouraging other employees to step up and take on roles leading things that I would normally. I have also invited others to participate in panels or discussions with me.
