Meet Luminary Members, Angela Thompson & Sabreena DeNure

Tell us a bit about yourself! How did you get started with your current career path/business journey?

It was a trip to NYC where I met Sabreena' s father, a Health Insurance Broker, while accompanying my mother, a senior VP of a Travel Agency, during a business trip that started the conversation. He immediately knew that Sabreena and I could join forces to create something great. After a meeting with our parents, Sabreena and I came up with the same company name and started forth with the mentorship of our parents to build a woman health insurance firm. Thus, Provision Resource Solutions, LLC was born 12/1/2017.

How are you overcoming challenges during the pandemic as a business owner?

We are having to start thinking outside of the box. Getting creative with more than just employer health insurance. Since COVID has happened, we are now licensed to sell Medicare and we have partnered with Individual Health Insurance carriers. Since we do not focus on individual health care, it was important to create these types of relationships since our clients were affected by the pandemic. People lost their jobs and businesses, which then in return people were needing more individual health care guidance. Along with COVID, we were having to remain educated on how to assist employers guide their employees in the event that someone was needing to use their healthcare during these trying times. With doctor's offices being closed for periods of time, virtual care became prominent. Keeping up with health insurance carriers and their COVID protocols was also a struggle as this was all new territory for everyone.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

Sabreena and I are both collegiate athletes. Had full scholarships to play basketball and volleyball through our college careers which created a foundation for us to share teamwork, leadership, and dedicated personalities. These traits have allowed us to work under pressure, meet deadlines, communicate, while being organized.

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

I think Sabreena and I both can agree on taking that back seat. Second guessing ourselves when we weren't heard. Going into our fourth year now we stand taller at the front of the line more confident than ever after celebrating some losses, some wins and still a ways to go.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?

Time management is currently one of the professional skills that is a work in progress. We are striving to become more proactive than reactive. Sabreena and I feel like we are constantly putting out fires all day for our clients, that when it comes to spending more time on education, sales and marketing it feels as if it is placed on the backburner.

In what ways are you taking care of your personal well being and what are your #selfcare tips?

Lots of laughter, drinking, and kickboxing! Not necessarily in that order. One of our favorite things to do in our office is laugh. A lot! Although our line of work can be very stressful, you have to take the time to laugh and not be so serious all the time. We both enjoy Kickboxing to release a lot of stress before we turn off work mode to go into our mommy mode. And a nice cocktail or a glass of wine is always a great way to wind down at the end of the day. If this year wasn't the biggest reminder for some selfcare then I don't know what is. Life is short and it is stressful, laugh a lot - exercise for your mental and physical health - and have that glass of wine every now and then to unwind.

How are you inviting others to take a seat at the table #virtually?

We really pride ourselves in educating others about health insurance. How to be true consumers and understand what it is you need to cover yourself and your family and also being the advocate for the employer and how to help their company and their employees. So we invited others to have a seat at our table on social platforms to ask questions and engage with us when it comes to discussions about health insurance.

What impact has Luminary made in your career? eg: Business Generated, Revenue, New Clients, Career Connections, Advancement Opportunities

We truly have been so fortunate to be able to be a part of the Luminary family through the UFA Fellowship program. Within days of joining zoom calls we have been fortunate to engage with other incredible women. The marketing platform that it has provided has been incredible and then there's the educational piece. We are so excited to see what the next year will bring as we continue our Luminary engagements.
