Meet Luminary Member, Rachel Feldman

Luminary Member Rachel Feldman

Tell us a bit about yourself! How did you get started with your current career path/business journey?

I'm a passionate storyteller who started in the advertising industry for a few years. I met great talented people and learned so much. Unfortunately it didn't quite fit my personality. Then one day, a director showed me a storyboard of a tampon commercial and went on about how this was "art." I said, "..well, if this is art, I'm Picasso because I get this once a month". I giggled, he didn't, and it was this conversation that pushed me into stand-up AND news documentaries.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

Sweet, spicy, humor, and innovation are the three ingredients to my success. I'm a real believer in being kind, considerate, and patient, but my spicy side demands hard work and high-quality results. I use humor to diffuse tense situations. It is essential to calm the situation down, and it's a great reminder of how you shouldn't take yourself so seriously. Also, I love producing common stories with a completely different perspective. It's a real high for me to create something no one else has made.

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, or in your business, and what did you learn from it?

Ah, so many mistakes but yes they were essential. I forgot to make a hotel reservation for one of our directors who was shooting a commercial in Los Angles. It was a painful lesson but because of it, I'm a an obsessed "to do list" person.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?

Anything taking us into the future with digital media.

How do you invite others to take a seat at the table?

I would say "C'mon over and sit with me!"

What is one thing you wish you knew a year ago?

I lost my job during Covid and if I could give myself some advice, I would tell myself to stay open about everything.

What impact has Luminary made in your career? eg: Business Generated, Revenue, New Clients, Career Connections, Advancement Opportunities

For myself, Luminary gave me community, which was essential both pre-covid and especially during covid. I've been blown away by both the staff and other members who want to support and help you, no matter how big or small your goals are. I feel fortunate to belong to such an innovative, caring group of people.
