Unilever's United For America Initiative Will Donate $25 Million In Goods And Services By The End Of 2020

The initiative was started to help those in need during COVID-19.

Unilever announced today that it would be continuing its United for America initiative, partnering with retailers across the country to keep supporting families most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This phase of the initiative focuses on three important issues that are particularly relevant six months into the pandemic: the education gap, access to food and essential supplies, and what some people are calling "the She-Cession," or the financial impact COVID-19 has had on women and women-owned businesses.

Unilever, which is parent company to food brands like Ben & Jerry's and Hellmann's, is partnering with local non-profits and retailers like Dollar General, Vons, Pavillions, Albertsons, HEB, and more, who will contribute goods, services, and financial contributions. United for America plans to donate an additional $5 million in goods and services from now until the end of the year, which will bring the total of goods and services donated since March to $25 million.

President of Unilever North America Fabian Garcia said:

The pandemic continues to take a toll on education, jobs and access to food. At Unilever, we feel it is our responsibility to do all we can to help struggling communities who are feeling this most. We know that we are stronger together, so we’re proud to unite with some of our largest retail partners across the country to help create more impact.

The organization will help communities in Houston, Minneapolis, Fort Wayne, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Detroit, the Carolinas, and New York City, donating food and supplies to families who are experiencing unprecedented need as COVID-19 rages on in the U.S.

Unilever will also be supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Southern California to uplift their work in creating greater equity in education by providing funding for computers, technology resources and educational supplies, which is especially prescient during COVID-19 when many children are schooling virtually.

Finally, the initiative will also be working with Luminary, a women-focused collaboration, organization, and community space to help women and women-owned businesses navigate the pandemic by providing mentorship and financial support.

You can learn more about how to donate—or receive benefits as part of the program—on the organization's website here.
