Meet Luminary Member, Laethycia Simms

Tell us a bit about yourself! How did you get started with your current career path/business journey?

I worked as a personal assistant, house manager and a nanny for several years, for some high profile household. The idea to create a private concierge company was actually Corinne the other half of Personal Attention. We had the same experience as household staff member for prominent New Yorker families. It was natural for the two of us to join forces with each other and build our company.

How are you overcoming challenges during the pandemic as a business owner?

As a concierge company our goal is to answer all of our customers' needs. So with COVID-19 we had to let them know safety was our 1st priority. We had to pay attention to the new lifestyle our clients wanted, to handcraft new services to suit their requests.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

I take risks. I left France by myself  8 years ago to come to New York without a job or any money. I am very resourceful I always reach my goals.

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

Doing things without a plan or a clear strategy. You might be able to get some things done but it won't work in the long run.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?

Leadership. I need to work on that especially since we have more people in our team.

In what ways are you taking care of your personal well being and what are your #selfcare tips?

I don't work at home, actually I rarely open my laptop when I am home and I don't feel guilty about it anymore. ( I am still using my phone to post on IG though). I might be an entrepreneur but I still want to have a 9 to 5 routine. My days are pretty full though.

How are you inviting others to take a seat at the table #virtually?

Well actually since Luminary reopened I have been invited friends and business associates to the space. We can catch up on the past difficult months, brainstorm together and create new business opportunities while still being able to do some social distancing.

What impact has Luminary made in your career? eg: Business Generated, Revenue, New Clients, Career Connections, Advancement Opportunities

First and foremost Luminary gave me a place to work that I could afford and where I felt comfortable. I was able to have my business meeting at Luminary. No more looking for a quiet hotel or restaurant, to meet with potential clients.

I am meeting other members with different background from mine, that I would never met if it wasn't for Luminary. I actually became really closed to some of them. Luminary made networking so easy thanks to the different events, I was able to get new clients. As a young entrepreneur and woman, bringing potential business partners or clients gives my company and I more credibility.
